Great barrels on Fuerteventura to kick off the new year

Happy new year from the whole NOMB Surfteam!! We hope you started 2019 in style and got some great waves along the way.

Here on Fuerteventura the waves have been pumping. What a winter it has been so far. Clean groundswells of all sizes, Offshore winds. Epic. After the winter holiday chaos the island is now returning to it´s chilled out vibes. Loving this time of the year..

Like everyone else, we here at NOMB Surf have made some resolutions for the next year. And you know what? They all involve SURFING!! The whole team will be working extra hard for you to have the maximum NOMB Surf experience. We are dedicated to improve and evolve. This includes staff training, improved coaching structures, new trip destinations and an overall exciting new surf experience. Watch out for our new image clip, soon to be released!!

So what´s gonna happen at NOMB Surf in 2019?? There are some exciting news on the horizon.

Let´s start with the NOMB Surftrips, here is a quick overview of this year´s upcoming trips:

  • 7 days surfholiday TENERIFE TAKE-OFF (Jan 2019)
  • 14 days intensive surfcamp GALICIAN GALAXY (May 2019)
  • 7 days surfholiday GLITZY GALICIA (June 2019)
  • 14 days adventure surftrip SOON TO BE ANNOUNCED to somewhere in Africa (Sep 2019)
  • 7 days surfholiday ICONIC IRELAND (Nov 2019)

On our surfcoaching trips, as well as during our private surfcoachings of Fuerteventura, we guarantee an individual and professional coaching. The maximum number of participants on our surftrips is 6, making sure that everyone improves quickly. We always work with a local surfschool and have one of their experienced instructors in the water with us. That brings the student-instructor ratio down to max 3 surfers per instructor. Wouldn´t you want to be part of the great NOMB Surfcrew??

If we are not away running one of our fantastic surftrips we offer private surfcoachings on paradise island Fuerteventura, our homebase. So what exactly is private surfcoaching? It means it´s only you and your own surfcoach. Your coach is fully dedicated to making you learn and improve fast on a one to one basis. So what should quality surfcoaching look like?? Indivdual –  goal setting – feedback. Those are some of the keywords that you will come across when training with NOMB Surf. And watch out, quality surfcoaching is not only about commenting every one of your waves, it also included a lot of indirect coaching drills, essential theory and visual analysis. And you wanna know what? NOMB Surf offers all of the above, in English, German and Spanish. Choose the language that suits you most.

NOMB Surf sticks out in the national and international surfmarket, choosing quality and individuality over quantity and profit. If you want to be part of the NOMB Surfcrew, either on one of our cool surfcoaching trips or getting coached on Fuerteventura, get in touch with us. We are happy to tailor make just the right experience for you.

New trip: TENERIFE TAKE-OFF, January 2019!

New trip: TENERIFE TAKE-OFF, January 2019!

Next years Canary Island surftrip will take the NOMB Surfteam to Tenerife.

Trying to escape the European winter the NOMB Surfcrew is heading back to the Canary Islands in January 2019: TENERIFE TAKE-OFF is the name of our next surfholiday! Yippie!

This years surfcoaching trip to the Canaries, Lanzarote Legacy in January, has been pretty damn good. Ok, the weather could have been a little bit nicer but never mind, the NOMB Surfcrew had a hell of a time. Looooads of waves, improvements and great memories. Leaving us with the wish to return to the volcanic rocks in front of the African coast.

TENERIFE TAKE-OFF will take us to the north of this cone shaped island. Did you know that El Teide, the highest peak on Tenerife, is also the highest peak in whole Spain?? That´s right, 3.718m of volcanic rock are sticking out in the middle of the island. Well, to be honest, the whole island of Tenerife is one gigantic volcano. We will stay in a characteristic house in the north of the island, far away from the big hotels and mass tourism of the south. Even though there are great waves in the south of the island as well, we will try to stay away from the crowds and explore the north and west coast spots. Guided by legend EMILIO DE ARMAS from It´s On Private Surfcoaching the NOMB Surfcrew will pass seven days of great waves and professional surfcoaching on this magical island. Magical? Yep, right. Check out this little video and get lost in Tenerife´s beauty!

Wow, how amazing is this little island?? Sooo much to explore, so many waves to surf. We totally can´t wait to get over there.

TENERIFE TAKE-OFF will be run as a surfholiday. What does that mean? A NOMB Surfholiday trip is the perfect mix of surfing + relaxing + exploring. It is designed for surfers who want to surf & improve but are also looking for some down time away from their every day stress. Throughout the week there will be yoga sessions, perfect for you to wind down and stretch the used paddle muscles. We will be joined by one of our NOMB Surfchefs, spoiling us with tasty and nutritious food. A surfholiday is an overall carefree trip, designed for you to surf and relax!

So what´s included in a NOMB Surfholiday?

  • 7 days of surfcoaching
  • 7 night of accommodation in a great house (shared)
  • power breakfast & fantastic dinner
  • transport
  • surf equipment (if needed)
  • safety introduction to surfspots
  • photo/video analysis
  • yoga sessions
  • surf theory
  • free time
  • exploring & activities (possible extra charge)
  • loads of fun and new friends
  • waves, waves and more waves

As you see, all you need to do is surf, relax and surf. Everything else will be organized for you!! The best bit about the NOMB Surfcoaching trips however is the individual coaching and family atmosphere. Each trip has a maximum of 6 surfers, guaranteeing a highly individual coaching. The results are usually mindblowing 😉

Want to take your surfing to the next level? Want to run around from dark winter days? Want to spend 7 days getting spoiled? There are 4 more surfspaces left on this incredible surfcoaching trip to Tenerife. Hurry up and secure one for yourself![vc_row row_type=”row” use_row_as_full_screen_section=”no” type=”full_width” angled_section=”no” text_align=”center” background_image_as_pattern=”without_pattern” css_animation=””][vc_column][vc_empty_space][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]

Hope to sea you in the water soon!

Individual Surfcoaching on Fuerteventura, yeah!!

Individual Surfcoaching on Fuerteventura, yeah!!

THE NOMB SURFCOACHING SEASON 2018/2019 ON BEAUTIFUL FUERTEVENTURA HAS OFFICIALLY STARTED!

That´s right, great news!! From now until the end of April next year NOMB Surfs headcoach Angie will be hanging around the surfing headquarters on our favorite island in the Atlantic. And making sure that YOU boost your surfing, gain confidence and surf waves you didn´t even know you could!

So what´s all this individual coaching about?? What makes NOMB Surfcoachings so different to a normal surfschool??

The answer is simple: it´s just you and your own surfcoach. The focus is on you, noone else. There are no random groups, no 8:1 student-instructor ratio, no rushing around. We generally only accept one coaching per day, giving us all the freedom to choose just the right time and spot for our coaching session.

But there are even more reasons that make NOMB Surf so unique:

  •  NOMB Surfcoaching is not only about direct coaching in the water, commenting every single of your waves. Here at NOMB Surf we work with a lot of different coaching techniques, direct and indirect. Photo & Video analysis are a big part of what we do for example. You will be surprised how much you improve your surfing if you see yourself recorded. Sure, it´s a bit of a reality check first but wait until you see your improvements in the water.

  • We also back up the practical coaching part on the beach with surftheory sessions. Totally individual, tailored for you. Like every wave, every surfer is different. Our headcoach Angie is an expert in analyzing your surfskill level, tickling out those hidden fears & worries and guiding you on the way to progress your surfing.

  • As we only have one coaching session a day there is no need for rushing around. You are on holidays still. Our coaching sessions have no set time limit. Your physical abilities and the local conditions will determine the actual time on the beach. But hey, no worries, so far none of our students has felt undercoached 😉 Often we split the session into two parts, the beach and the theory part. But again, it´s all individual here at NOMB Surf.

  • German, English or Spanish, you can choose the language you prefer. We understand how important it is to express yourself , your doubts and even fears when learning how to surf. Headcoach Angie is fluent in all three languages and used to coach three-lingual. Like on our surfcoaching trips our clients are international, however the German surfercommunity prevails.

  • A female surfcoach! With years of coaching experience! ISA Level 2 qualified! That´s rather hard to find as not too many females coaches stand out in a still male dominated sport. However, with equal prize money on the WSL competions starting next year the sport of surfing will see more and more females following the surfing career path. Either as a professional surfer, or even coach. Back to our female coach Angie. Many female surfers, especially beginner surfer, feel more at ease with a female coach. Angie is very emphatic with the concerns of female surfers. On the other hand though, she has a fierce reputation, some do even call her drillseargent 🙂

We here at NOMB Surf understand that every surfer, first day beginner to advanced, has different needs and expectations. Some prefer to surf as part of a group, some only want to give surfing a shot to see if they like it, some are looking for a mix of party and surfing.. That´s cool, too. There are loooads of surfschools and surfcamps here on Fuerteventura who offer exactly this kind of environments.

At NOMB Surf we have a slightly different but clear focus: individual, professional, efficient and fun surfcoaching!

Sounds good to you? We are stoked to get you into the water and onto the surfboard!

Ps: check out this little video about our last family surfcoaching day. First day surfing (well, sort of) for all three cousins. And yeaaaah, at the end of the day they all surfed whitewater waves all the way down to the beach!!! Clap your hands for our Kamikaze Family!!

Surfcoaching – a guide to identify quality coaching!

Surfcoaching – a guide to identify quality coaching!

You wanna learn how to surf, or improve your existing skills?

But where to start?? Woow, how much information is out there??

You sit down on your computer, you hammer surfschool or surfcoaching into Google, and then BANG, you are fully covered in loads of information. And yeah, all those surfcamps and surfschools, they look amazing. Great drone videos of people having a blast in the water, sunsets and good looking people on the beach. But hang on, does it say anything about coaching at all??

Most of the surfschools and surfcamps offer a lot more than only surflessons. There is accommodation, food and extra activities. All nicely shown on their websites. But do they say anything about the way they teach you how to surf and improve?? And where do you find this important information?

We have put together a LITTE GUIDE on how to find out what sort of surfcoaching quality your choosen surfcamp/surfschool is actually offering. Here we go:

  • 1. STUDENT – INSTRUCTOR RATIO

In most countries there are strict regulations on how many students per instructor are allowed in the water. Here in Spain its 8-1 for example. As surfschools tend to be serious businesses nowadays you can be sure that most of the schools will max out this ratio. You found a school that offers max 5 students per instructor? Great, that´s a good sign for being serious about their coaching quality.

That´s our coaching group of last years surfcoaching trip to Ireland. Small group, empty line-ups, the improvements were unreal!!

  • 2. COACHING OUTSIDE THE WATER (e.g. video analysis or theory)

Many people limit good surfcoaching to commenting every single wave. Well, that´s one part of coaching but there is so much more. Direct feedback is only one little piece of the puzzle. Put the puzzle together and it will get so much more efficient. The website of your desired surfschool offers video analysis? Surf theory lessons? That´s great, again, another sign for good coaching. However, often what´s stated on the website isn´t really put into practice. Most of the times it really depends on the instructor itself. Before booking, contact the surfschool and ask how often they actually do these out of the water activities. You might be surprised by their answer. Opt for a school that promises to include these coaching techniques on a regular basis.

This is what a quality photo analysis can look like.

  • 3. ONLINE REVIEWS (e.g. Tripadvisor or Google)

Online reviews are fantastic. They can tell you what´s been going on at the surfcamp you want to visit. Tripadvisor and such give customers a chance to rate their experience. Often do customers praise the place because they had a good time but sometimes serious issues are highlighted. Scan the negative feedback first, any comments about bad/missing coaching? Nothing, then move one to the positive reviews. They will surely tell you about how much fun they had etc but check for any comments about the actual coaching. Anything that sticks out? One particular instructor? A specific course??

Take your time to read quite a few of them and see if it says anything valuable to you. Nothing about coaching at all?? Maybe check another surfschool, even if their website might not look as fancy as the one you picked. Little tip: it´s mostly the smaller surfschools that have their focus on quality teaching! Make the effort and check them out as well!

Can you find the hidden information about NOMB Surf´s coaching in the Facebook review of one of our happy customers? 🙂

We hope that this little guide helps you finding a surfcamp/surfschool that is serious about surfcocaching. Sure, surfing is about having fun and surfholidays, as they say, are about relaxing and having a great time. But if you decide to combine your holidays with learning how to surf, make sure you pick a surfschool that not only offers quality coaching but also keeps it´s promises. This little guide can help you identify what´s really happening on the coaching side of a surfcamp.

Here at NOMB Surf we truly believe in the significance and efficiency of personalized surfcoaching. Over and over it amazes us to see how quality coaching boosts the surfing level of our customers. Our surfcoaching trips are fully focused on coaching, with a max number of 6 surfstudents. We go even further at our homebase Fuerteventura, where we offer only Private Coachings. Just you and your surfcoach!

Sounds good, doesn´t it?? Then check what´s happening next at NOMB Surf and hopefully we will have the pleasure to coach you one day!
