Chile Surf Trip April 2027 - Punta de Lobos

April 2027. One of the best waves in Chile. Small group, two coaches, and enough time to surf and explore.

Punta de Lobos is one of those waves people travel across the world for. We’re staying there for twelve days. That’s enough time to improve your surfing while also gaining a deep understanding on how the ocean works.

;

Quick facts

Dates: 05 – 17 April 2027

Group size: max. 4 surfers

Level: Transition Surfer & below

Location: Pichilemu, Chile

Languages: English, German, Spanish

Why join this trip?

Pichilemu sits on one of the most consistent stretches of Pacific coastline in the world. Punta de Lobos, the wave right on our doorstep, is a long left point break with distinct sections, multiple entry points, and completely different character depending on the tide, the swell direction, and the wind. You can surf it for a month and still be learning something with every surf.

Instead of figuring out the basics of a new break every day, we’ll really go deep into understand this one wave – and will be able to use this ocean knowledge in the future.

Instead of moving from spot to spot, we stay. We watch the same wave in different conditions. We learn to read it. We understand why it breaks differently at different conditions, where to sit, when to go, and when to let it pass.

By the end of the trip, you’ll have improved your surfing, made new friends, discovered a new culture and country,  but more importantly, you’ll understand the ocean and waves so much better than before, so you’ll be more confident in different surf spots around the world.

Who's this for?

You’ll love this trip if…

You’ve surfed before, maybe just a few sessions, maybe more. You know the basics and you’re ready to go deeper

You want to understand what you’re doing in the water, not just copy movements on the beach

You’re happy with one focused session per day and time to let it sink in

You appreciate a small crew, honest coaching, and evenings that don’t need to be scheduled

You’re curious about Chile – the country, the food, the people – not just the waves

This trip is not for you if…

You’ve never surfed before; this trip is not the place to find out if surfing is for you

You want all-day surfing or a packed activity programme

You need a fixed daily schedule to enjoy a trip

You’re looking for nightlife or a resort-style holiday

Cold water to you sounds exhausting rather than exciting

Your interest is peaked,
but you aren’t sure if the trip is right for you?

Our Chile Surf Trip in March 2027 moves along the coast with no fixed itinerary, for independent surfers and above.

The coaching concept

Surf coaching 100% tailored to you

No one-size-fits-all lessons here. With a group this small, your coaches see everything. That level of attention is what makes the difference. The goal is to leave you with the confidence and knowledge to paddle out anywhere, read the conditions, find your place in the lineup, and surf independently.

What coaching looks like on this trip:

A personalised coaching plan built around where you are now and where you want to get to

Clear, specific technical instruction (pop-up mechanics, positioning, reading the wave, weight distribution)

Video analysis so you can see what your body is actually doing

Learning to read the ocean and how to assess before you paddle out

Surf etiquette and lineup behaviour

Time between feedback to figure things out yourself (because that’s how it sticks)

Minimum surf level

You’ve surfed before. This trip is not the place to find out if surfing is for you, but the place to find out how good you can get.

To get the most out of the experience, you should be able to:

Have at least a few surf sessions under your belt, so you know how a pop-up works and you've caught some waves

Be a confident, comfortable swimmer

Know your place in the lineup as a travelling surfer and follow the basics of surf etiquette

Be open to coaching, honest feedback, and figuring things out yourself

If you’re not sure whether you’re ready, get in touch via Whatsapp. We’ll ask a few questions and give you an honest assessment.

Gear notes: Surfboard rental is included, but you are welcome to bring your own. Bringing your own 4/3mm wetsuit and 5mm booties is essential. A hooded neoprene vest is strongly recommended for cooler mornings. If you don’t have a wetsuit, let us know in advance and we’ll sort one out for you.

The itinerary

Let’s get to know Punta de Lobos

We will be based a few kms South of Pichilemu for the full twelve days, in a cozy cabaña overlooking Punta de Lobos. Mornings start with checking the waves from the terrace, evenings are made for sunsets and the BBQ area will definately not stay unused.

Staying in one place is intentional. You wake up and look at the same wave every morning, and every morning it looks different. The tide, the swell direction, the wind, the sets, the sections. You learn when to be in the water, when to wait, and when watching from the cliff teaches you more than paddling straight out. That kind of understanding takes time, and that is exactly why we stay.

Close by Pichilemu is a cool little town and has everything you need: good food, a relaxed local scene, and enough going on that you’ll never be bored between sessions and our outside the water fun program.

Local knowledge you can’t buy

Our local guide has surfed Punta de Lobos and the surrounding breaks for years. He knows this wave in and out. He knows the other local surfers, and makes us feel welcomed in the water rather than just tolerated.

Maybe our local guide won’t speak perfect English, but that’s fine. Angie translates, and there’s always a way to communicate with hand and feet and some Spanglish.

Our local connection shapes the whole trip as we feel genuinely welcomed like guests rather than outsiders passing through.

Looking after you in Chile

Our surf trip is led by Angie Ringleb, an ISA level II qualified surf coach with over a decade of surfcoaching experience. Angie has been surfing Chile’s waves for years. She is very passionate about sharing her love for surfing and the ocean.

Surftripping and exploring different places is a big part of who I am. Which is why I organise surf trips and create new experiences with other curious surfers. Having previously lived in Chile, I am happy to share my love and knowledge for the country and am very much looking forward to having you join me at my second home!

Joining Angie will be a local surf coach. Having lived in Chile for years, Angie has a great network of local surfers and professionals. Our coaches might not always speak perfect English, but their local wave knowlege will be unmatched.

Read more about Angie

‘Many years ago I decided to live my life outside the box. My travels brought me to a lot of different corners of this planet, like Chile for example. I now live in Fuerteventura, where I run this small female-led surf school and the beautiful NGO NOMB Changes, spreading my love for the sport of surfing and the ocean on a daily basis.

I am an ISA level II qualified surfcoach, trained lifeguard and have over a decade of coaching experience. I can coach in English, German and Spanish.

I believe that everyone can surf and enjoy the thrill of the waves, you just have to adopt the methods of teaching. I am looking forward to guiding you through the Pacific waves and the incredible country called Chile!

Life beyond the line-up

We come for the waves, but we don’t want to miss the country around them. Chile has a certain way of filling the space between surf sessions. Off the board, you might find yourself…

Horseback riding along the beach

Hiking to hidden places

Lounging with a book and a view

Sharing a bonfire or a few pisco sours (the local drink!)

Conscious Surftravel

We love to travel around the globe chasing waves. Who doesn't? At the same time we are aware of the impacts surftravels causes. Adapting to the methods of sustainable tourism is the only way for us to operate. Therefore we strive for economical, socio-cultural and environmental sustainabilities in all our surftrip operations.

How does it work?

It means, that we deliberately work with local surfschools & partners and travel in off-seasons to leave economic benefit in the hosting community. It means, that we look for socio-cultural exchange and carefully integrate our surfteam by being open, showing respect and participating in local events. It means, that we leave any location in a better state than how we have found have it.

We know that tree-planting or offsetting alone doesn’t erase the impact of travel. So instead of just balancing emissions, we want to create real, local value. That’s why we invite you to take a closer look at our Environmental Policy and support our non-profit partner NOMB Changes. They work on ocean education, community projects and environmental action, right where we surf.

Beachside stays and delicious local cuisine

A typical and modern cabaña with a direct view of Punta de Lobos, unreasonable sunsets included. You’ll share a twin room with a fellow NOMB surfer (we’re mindful of gender preferences if you let us know in advance). Same homebase for all twelve nights: unpack once, settle in, and focus on the waves.

Food: Breakfast is prepared every morning, delicious and filled with good fuel. Dinners are a mix: you get cooked for, we head to local restaurants, have an asado (BBQ) on our terrace or cook together.  Lunch is yours, but is normally taken together with the group somewhere outside. Frequent supermarket runs let you stock up on everything you might need.

FAQs

What are the travel regulations for Chile?

European citizens do not need a visa for entry and stays of up to 90 days.

Upon entry, a free “Tarjeta Única Migratoria” (Single Migration Card) is issued as proof of entry, allowing a stay of up to 90 days and specifying the mandatory departure date. This card must be returned upon departure.

Recomended vaccinations:

  • Hepatitis A/B
  • Rabies

How much do we surf on this trip?

One focused coaching session per day. If conditions are exceptional, we’ll find a way to get back in the water.

Will we surf Punta de Lobos every day?

Punta de Lobos is our home wave and the main focus of the trip. If conditions allow, we may do a day trip to another nearby spot, but the concept is built around knowing one wave well rather than ticking off locations. Depth over breadth.

How do I get from Santiago airport to Pichilemu?

Pichilemu is easily reached by bus from Santiago, around 3.5 hours depending on the connection. Note that unlike some of our other trips, we don’t pick up from the airport. We are happy to send you travel recommendations once you’re booked.

Do I need to bring a surfboard?

No, softboards are included. If you are looking for a specific type of board, check with us in advance for availability.

If you have your own and want to bring it, you’re welcome to. Surfing your own board always gives extra confidence.

What wetsuit do I need?

A 4/3mm wetsuit and 5mm booties are essential. Chilean water in April is cold. A hooded neoprene vest is strongly recommended for cooler mornings. If you don’t own a wetsuit, let us know in advance and we’ll sort one out for you.
